1. When did you start martial arts, and what motivated you to begin?
I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2019. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been drawn to martial arts, growing up watching old-school martial arts movies. Later, watching the UFC inspired me to take the leap and start training seriously.
2. What made you decide to become a instructor?
When our new gym opened in Doveton, my head coach, Ken, needed someone to step in and assist with classes. I took on the role and quickly realized how much I enjoyed teaching. Coaching not only allowed me to help others but also deepened my own understanding of BJJ and improved my skills on the mat.
3. What are your goals as a coach or personal aspirations?
My goal as a coach is to make BJJ an enjoyable and rewarding experience while showcasing it as a great tool for improving fitness, discipline, and mental toughness. I want to create an environment where students can develop their skills, build confidence, and have fun along the way.
4. What message would you like to share with your students?
Enjoy the journey! BJJ is a long-term commitment, so don’t get discouraged if a technique doesn’t click right away or if you lose a match. It’s all part of the learning process. The key is consistency—keep showing up, ask questions, and stay open to learning. Growth comes with time and effort.
5. What advice would you give to someone hesitating to start martial arts?
Starting anything new can feel intimidating, but once you step onto the mat and give BJJ a try, you won’t regret it. It’s a sport that offers countless benefits—fitness, self-discipline, mental resilience, and an amazing community. Take that first step, and you’ll be glad you did!
6. What certifications or competition titles have you achieved?
I earned my Purple Belt in 2024 under Revolution Martial Arts.
