1. When did you start martial arts, and what motivated you to begin?
I started training Judo when I was nine years old. As a smaller-sized kid, I was motivated to learn martial arts to defend myself. Judo’s ability to throw and sweep much larger opponents fascinated me. Throughout my childhood and teenage years, it provided a perfect balance of fun and challenge.
As a young adult, I became obsessed with the UFC, which led me to start training in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). During this time, I was captivated by the techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. These techniques consistently allowed me to take down, control, and submit bigger and stronger opponents efficiently. Over time, I shifted my focus primarily to Jiu-Jitsu while supplementing my training with Wrestling.
For me, Martial Arts is a deeply fulfilling blend of physical, mental, and spiritual engagement.
2. What made you decide to become a instructor?
I have dedicated part of my life to mastering the best Jiu-Jitsu knowledge available today. Personally, I’ve experienced how modern, high-percentage techniques and well-structured teaching systems can rapidly transform someone’s combat performance.
I began coaching when training partners frequently sought my advice, and the more I taught, the more I found it fulfilling to help others grow. Teaching also helped refine my own understanding of the art. I have a knack for simplifying complex concepts, structuring lessons effectively, and delivering information in an engaging manner.
Becoming a Jiu-Jitsu coach has allowed me to align my skills, passion, and desire to make a positive impact on others.
3. What are your goals as a coach or personal aspirations?
As a coach, my primary goal is to help my students discover joy in Jiu-Jitsu while reaching their full potential—whether that means excelling in competitions or merely improving themselves. I believe coaching is about more than just teaching techniques; it’s about fostering an environment where people feel challenged, supported, and inspired to grow.
Personally, I aspire to continue progressing toward Jiu-Jitsu mastery and competing at the highest levels. I see it as my responsibility to keep growing so I can provide my students with the best possible guidance.
4. What message would you like to share with your students?
Jiu-Jitsu has evolved exponentially in the last decade, with the sport’s greatest minds refining and systematizing optimal combat techniques. I am committed to learning this world-class knowledge and sharing it with you.
Success in martial arts isn’t about natural talent or physical attributes; it’s about a willingness to learn, consistent effort, and taking responsibility for your growth. Don’t compare yourself to others; focus on your own progress and enjoy the process. Each person’s martial arts journey is unique, and while it can be challenging, it’s also profoundly rewarding. The lessons you learn along the way will stay with you for a lifetime.
5. What advice would you give to someone hesitating to start martial arts?
Martial arts is one of the most enriching endeavors you can undertake. Beyond physical skills, it offers life-changing benefits such as increased confidence, mental resilience, discipline, and lifelong friendships.
Starting can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never done anything similar before, but remember: everyone starts as a beginner. Progress comes with time and effort. Martial arts is a journey uniquely tailored to you. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, big or small, athletic or unfit.
This is particularly evident in Jiu Jitsu where practitioners adopt fighting styles and technique modifications to complement their unique physical attributes and skill level.
Taking the first step is the hardest part, but once you start, you’ll wonder why you waited so long. You might even surprise yourself with what you’re capable of achieving!
6. What certifications or competition titles have you achieved?
I am currently a Brown Belt under three-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion and 6th-degree Black Belt Professor Marcelino Freitas.
My martial arts training also includes over three years of wrestling under Mahdi Sarijloo (former Iranian wrestling champion) and Konstantin Ermakovich (Australian National Wrestling Coach).
